Swinging G farms is family owned and operated. The farm was
homesteaded in 1872 by Almarine and Jennie Guttery. Their son,
Porter Guttery, along with his son Al Guttery, added to the homestead
through the years. Today, Al's son, Brice along with his wife
Shana, manage the farm in conjunction with the other Swinging G
operations. The Swinging G is still called "home" by
many of Guttery extended family. We proudly invite you to our farm
and hope you feel at "home" while you are here.
The farm is located near the small community of Alton, KS
(historically know as "Bull City"). Most of the Guttery
farm ground lies along the North Central Kansas Solomon River
Valley. In the valley, crops are ditch irrigated using water from
the Webster Irrigation Lake. Conservation practices such as
no-till planting are used successfully on dryland.
Hard, red, winter wheat is planted in the Fall and harvest usually in
late June and early July. In the Spring we plant corn, milo, and
soybeans. These crops are harvested in the months of September and
October. We also plant and harvest forage crops such as Oat, Brome
and Alfalfa hay. These crops are marketed and sold
locally.
